Glutamine is the most abundant amino acid in the human body. It is important for many homeostatic functions and for the optimal functioning of tissues, particularly the immune system and the gut. During various catabolic states, for example in situations of strenuous exercise the concentration of glutamine in the blood is decreased and the reserves are depleted – particularly in the skeletal muscle.
